MyStraddie

For decades, South Straddie had been a favourite getaway for locals and visitors.  Today, Council has a vision that considers the future needs of the island’s environment, cultural significance and the community. The eco and family friendly vision is being brought to life.

On 31 January 2012 Council voted to proceed to revitalise Tipplers with the development of the Tipplers Hub Concept Plan.

Council will now proceed with the development of the Tradewinds Restaurant and get on with finalising all land tenure, native title and others matters to progress the concept plan.

The completion of Tradewinds will enable the community to enjoy what will be a new era for South Stradbroke Island.

Tipplers Hub MCU

The Tipplers Hub MCU provides for flexibility in delivering a range of uses and improvements including:

  • Environmental and other education
  • Foreshore management
  • Day visitor facilities
  • Licensed food and drink facilities
  • Camping and cabin accommodation
  • New state of the art sewerage treatment works
  • Potable water supply plant
  • New electricity generation facilities including utilisation of solar energy
  •

Tradewinds MCU

This application allows Council the option of establishing the Tradewinds building as a licensed restaurant while the much larger Tipplers Hub MCU is finalised.

The restaurant would use the existing temporary waste water treatment facility until the new treatment works is commissioned. The existing facility does not have sufficient capacity to service more than the proposed restaurant and cannot have its capacity increased.

Council knows the community is eager to see all Tipplers works completed but the  planning and statutory development approval processes  must be fully complied with as the outcomes are for today’s, and tomorrow’s, generations.

But there’s still a lot to explore and enjoy right now.

In other Straddie news an emergency phone has been installed at the south of the island, with direct links to police. This will assist bush walkers or surfers in an emergency.

The volunteer Green Army is also out and about removing weeds and planting coastal species around Currigee and Tipplers.
